Rovers pass biggest test – Burton Mail

Gresley Rovers continued their glittering start to life in the Beazer Midland Division by notching a 2-0 victory at Redditch last night.

The win, courtesy of second half goals from Kieron Smith and Craig Weston, extended Rovers’ 100 per cent Beazer record to four games and took them to the top of the table.

But it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Moatmen who had to withstand severe Redditch pressure in the first half.

Manager Steve Dolby said: “It was our best result so far because it was our toughest test. Defensively we were outstanding as a unit.”

The victory, however, was achieved at a price that could cost Gresley the services of central defender Stuart Evans for Saturday’s FA Cup clash at Newcastle Town.

Evans suffered a groin injury and is already rated a doubtful for the first qualifying round tie.
