Rovers versus Romans for Barry
Story courtesy of Burton Mail
Gresley Rovers boss John McGinlay has guaranteed Dr Martens Western Division rivals Rocester has a fight on their hands to prise away central defender Barry Woolley away from the Moat ground.
Woolley, a former Burton Albion Player before a move to Hillsfield, joined the Moatmen following the appointment of John McGinlay at the beginning of the year. But disappointing results plus some Rovers' fans barracking of Woolley has convinced Romans boss Martyn Smith, the former Rocester stopper could be persuaded to return and seven day's notice of intended approach has been lodged.
But McGinlay, speaking ahead of Rovers trip to Tiverton tomorrow (3pm), is adamant Rovers will fight tooth and nail to keep Woolley.
"We do not want to lose Barry Woolley, full stop," he said, "he's a good player and one for the future at Gresley."
But player-boss McGinlay, out for another two weeks with a calf strain, has major availability worries ahead of tomorrow's game.
Matt Warren (hamstring), Danny Verity (thigh) and Ian Bluck (ankle) have all been ruled out while doubts still linger over the fitness of Ravi Sangha whose ankle injury has already cost the striker three week's action. Michael Forsyth will be rested.
Rovers from: Lindley, Baldwin, Roberts, Woolley, Middleton, Gardner, Donaldson, Wardle, Coates, Peters, Bedward, Grant, Kitchin, Sangha.
Gresley Reserves' Challenge Trophy clash with Ilkeston Town, scheduled for the Moat ground tonight, has been postponed due to waterlogging and another attempt will be made tomorrow (2.45pm) at the same venue, but the tie is already doubtfull.
Players should check whether the game is on (01283 216315).
If both the first and reserve team games are postponed, a training session will be held at Repton (11am).
