Devaney make Rovers return

Striker Martin Devaney is poised to become the latest piece in Gresley Rovers’ Beazer Homes League jigsaw.
The Stoke-based front-runner has joined Rovers on a month’s loan from HFS Premier outfit Leek Town with a view to making the move permanent. The signing marks the pay-off for a month of patience from Moat Ground boss Steve Dolby who admitted today: “It’s great news for us – Martin is another class player. I always had a sneaking feeling that Martin would join us. I’ve been chasing him for a while but when I first spoke to him around a month ago he still wanted to give it a go at Leek.
“He felt he hadn’t done himself justice there and didn’t want to leave without achieving anything. But he’s been stuck on the bench for all their pre-season friendlies and feels he doesn’t fit into their plans.”
The return of the former Moat Ground favourite – who went on to become a Wembley goalscoring hero with Tamworth before moving to Leek – means Dolby will not be signing former Wolves midfielder Dave Read.
Dolby said: “We have plenty of players competing for midfield places and, while Dave has done well, I’ve had to let him go.”
Devaney comes straight into the reckoning for Gresley’s opening Beazer Homes Midland Division game against Dudley Town at home on Saturday.
