Gresley Rovers were given an 8-0 pre-season pounding by Third Division Swansea City at the Moat Ground on Saturday but veteran Moat striker Brian Beresford insisted: “We’ve learned a lot from it.”
Gasped Beresford afterwards: “Their passing and running off the ball was brilliant. Their first touch was the difference and the fact that players were always making themselves available. But I think we stood up well fitness-wise.”Rovers welcome back four absentees for tomorrow’s Moat Ground friendly against Newcastle Town (7.30pm).
Skipper Richard Denby is back after three weeks’ holidays while strikers Kieron Smith and Mick Taplin and midfielder Graeme Rigg rejoin the squad.
Dolby said today: “It should be a good game and another test for us. The fact that Newcastle knocked us out of the Vase last season adds spice.”
