Dolby snaps up striking pair

Two strikers have joined Gresley Rovers’ bid to make a mark on Beazer Homes League football.
Prolific scorer Mick Taplin moves from Central Midlands League Mickleover RBL, where he netted well over 100 goals. And manager Steve Dolby has snapped up centre forward Steve Taylor from last season’s West Midlands League title rivals Rushall Olympic.
Dolby said today: “Neither of them are what I’d call major signings – both are hoping to prove themselves at this level.
“Taplin has averaged 35 goals a season over the last three or four years whoever he’s played for, while I know Taylor from his spell at Burton Albion. He had five or six first team games there while I was assistant manager to Kenny Blair.
“He lost his way a bit after leaving Burton but he caught my eye when he played against us for Rushall last year. He’s a tall, target man, only 23 and one for the future.
Derby-based Taplin, 27, also had a spell at Eton Park before becoming one of the most prolific Central Midlands marksmen.
Dolby added he is “on the verge” of signing two players “with definite Southern League ability.”
