Newsome to remain at the Moat Ground
There has been some speculation by some sections of the supporters of Gresley Rovers that manager Jon Newsome would not be in charge come August.
However, a meeting between chairman Mark Evans and Newsome revealed that Newsome has pledged to remain at the Moat Ground.

Evans said: “I had a very good meeting with Jon at which he said he wanted to remain at the club and I’m delighted.”

Newsome succeeded John McGinlay after McGinlay had defected to Ilkeston Town just over 12 months ago.

“We had a good chat about next season and about the players he’d like to bring in and we spoke about this season and the lessons we could learn from it,” continued Evans. “It was never an issue, as far as I’m concerned, as to whether we wanted Jon here next season and no member of the board has raised any concerns regarding the matter.

Jon is sitting his UEFA ‘A’ coaching badge this summer and to have a coach of that quality will hold us in good stead. When you appoint a young manager, you have got to give him time to find his feet. I’m pleased with how this season has gone. We have a young, developing side and we have not had to fight it out at the bottom of the table or throw money at it.”

Newsome, like many other managers this season, has seen his playing budget reduced substantially, but is willing to return for next season knowing that the financial situation is unlikely to improve dramatically. He said: “I am happy to stay and carry on doing what I can do and see what happens.”
