The player-boss launched into an unprecedented attack on his players after another home defeat left Rovers languishing in the bottom reaches of the Dr Martens Western Division.

McGinlay singled out skipper Richard Wardle and striker Neil Kitching for "letting the side down" after both claimed to be match fit.

Stormed the Scot: " Wardle told me he was fit before the game but there were tackles that should have been made that weren't. Neil Kitching said he was ready but he looked a 100 miles away."

A furious McGinlay hit out at "a cancer spreading from top to bottom right through the squad" and vowed: "There were a few of them out there today for the last time. They let the supporters down and they've let me down for the last time. Of course I'm reviewing my own position. The buck stops with me and that's it. Whether I'm here on Tuesday we'll have to wait and see. I'm embarrassed and I've apologised to the supporters."

However, McGinlay was in a more reflective mood this morning, saying: "I have had time to look at things over the weekend and what I said about me reviewing my position was said somewhat in the heat of the moment. You set your standards high and I feel we are only a win away from getting things right. We had enough chances to win six games on Saturday but if we were still playing now I don't think we would have scored."

McGinlay is also hoping to tie up a deal with Burton Albion to take veteran central defender Michael Forsyth to the Moat Ground on loan.

Said McGinlay: "I hope something will be done today and would like to take him until the end of the season. I know him well and have played against him in the past. I went to watch him in a reserve game last week and was very impressed with him. He has great attitude and is a leader."

Rovers remain in a state of flux for tomorrow's (Tues) visit of Redditch United with none of McGinlay's current crop of causalities likely to be fit for a return.
