Simon Van-De-Broucke's Reserve team news
Simon Van-De-Broucke
Gaz has been away for the last two games so he's asked me to write his programme notes for Saturday’s game. Two weeks ago we went to the league's form side Solihull Borough and came away with a creditable 2-2 draw.
However after 20 minutes we found ourselves 2-0 up thanks to 2 Mykey Pryce goals and we were playing some fantastic football. A third goal at that stage would possibly have killed the game of but a goal late in the first half got Solihull back into the game. Mark Shiels also saved a penalty as we weathered the late first half Solihull pressure to take a slender 2-1 half time lead. The second half saw Solihull have the better of the game and they equalised midway through the half after a kicking mistake by the otherwise superb Mark Shiels. Neil Kitching played for match practise and I was delighted by his attitude during the game and the way he helped and encouraged the younger players.
Last Saturday saw both Gaz and I out of the country due to work commitments and rather than bring anyone in for one game we decided to offer the opportunity to two of the more experienced players to look after the side. James Parkinson and skipper Mickey Sandar took the reigns and despite the 3-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Boldmere they enjoyed the experience. A much improved second half performance was encouraging after defensive lapses saw us concede 3 sloppy first half goals. Thanks also to Reg Shorthouse who according to James and Mickey proved to be of valuable assistance to them both on the day
Today we travel to Worcester who are currently doing very well. That said we beat them here earlier in the season and we will be looking to do the double over them this afternoon.
Already, We are making plans for the squad for next season and have a string of trialists lined up, some of which will be involved during the remainder of the season.
