Gaz Norton's Reserve team news
Gaz Norton
Our game scheduled at Oadby on Saturday has been postponed due to Oadby 1st team playing at home in the FA Vase. This enables me to be at the game on Saturday to watch the 1st team and I, like most of you will hope for a much-improved performance than the one we witnessed on Tuesday evening against Mickleover.
I know Jon and Alan were deeply bemused and upset by the performance and I’m sure the lads wont mind me saying that collectively as a team, they let themselves, the club and you supporters down with what can only be described as a very, very poor performance. The lads I’ve spoken too since are absolutely chomping at the bit to put things right today by ensuring that the 3 points are wrapped up.I would like to welcome to the club two new signings. Midfielder Andy Dunn has joined us from Shepshed Dynamoe and made his debut in our draw at Highgate last weekend. Andy is 25 and has just moved into the Swadlincote area, so the move here fits well for him. He comes into the squad and adds a little experience to our side which Simon and I feel that we have lacked of late. I would also like to welcome Carl Eagling to the club, again from Shepshed. I tried to sign Carl for the club in pre season but he’d already agreed to sign for Ibstock before moving on to Shepshed where he’s recently been a regular member of their 1st team squad.
Carl is 20 years old and another local lad who likes to play up-front. That said, he can also play out wide too. I’m hopeful that before long Carl will be banging goals in for the 1st team.
Congratulations to Reserve team defender Paul Grosse who today gets engaged. Paul has invited the Reserve team squad to his engagement party tonight and I’m sure a good time will be had by all. Whilst on the subject on engagements, congratulations also go to Skipper Micky Sandar who also recently announced his engagement. Both have had their fair share of stick from the lads recently. Simon and I would like to wish Paul and Micky all the very best for the future.
We are in Moat Ground action next Saturday when Chasetown are the visitors. (2.45). This is followed by the visit of Barwell on March 15th. With the 1st team away at Taunton and Cirencestor respectively it would be nice to see a few of you at our game and perhaps in the bar for a beer or two afterwards.
Back to Saturday’s game and it’s very easy to criticise when things go wrong as they did on Tuesday night, especially as a supporter who had to witness the game. However, as I mentioned earlier, the lads know that they didn’t perform on the night and are keen to put things right. The bemusing thing for us all was that it came on the back of excellent performances against Bromsgrove and Cinderford. Every team has games like Tuesday and most bounce back as we will do. Please do your bit to help Jon, Alan and the lads and get behind them today. Your support will mean an awful lot.
