Rocester pre-match news
Gresley Rovers manager Jon Newsome is hoping to erase the “dreadful” showing in Tuesday night’s Derbyshire Senior Cup defeat by Mickleover Sports.
He has asked his players for a “big response” as they face a visit from near neighbours Rocester at the Moat Ground on Saturday.“I had a word with the lads at training on Thursday and they were all disappointed with the midweek performance. Some of the players admitted they were not up for the Mickleover game and thought they would just have to turn up to win,” said Newsome. “They all knew they had let themselves down and did not play anything like they can. So now I’m looking for a big response.
“Tomorrow’s game will be tough because Rocester are scrapping for all the points they can get and will make it very difficult for us.”
Newsome will make some changes to the line up with the return of striker Steve Rutter who was ineligible for the Tuesday game, up front and defender Gary White back after his three game ban.
Rutter has started his Gresley career well scoring 3 goals in the two games he’s played and seems to be getting more match fit with every game.
“Steve Rutter has done really well and Gary White will be itching to get a game. It’s difficult to change things around because we just have not got the players. Except for a couple who kept going on Tuesday, I don’t think many could complain if they found themselves out of the side on Saturday,” said Newsome.
Defender Ian Bluck is pushing for a start as is striker Neil Kitching who has recovered from a thigh injury.
The only doubt is Craig Hopkins who has a rib injury.
