Simon Tucker's 18th goal of the season put Rovers ahead in the first half only for Leon Kelly to level just after half-time to leave McGinlay enthusing: "We thoroughly deserved what we got, in fact, we deserved to win, I asked questions of them after Saturday and they answered them tonight".

Rovers looked a transformed side from that which subsided to dismal defeat at Shepshed at the weekend but McGinlay conceded his side enjoyed a slice of luck after the home side had a goal disallowed in first half injury time when keeper James Lindley spilled a free kick, then hit a post in added time at the end.

Said the Moat boss: "We got the rub of the green when the keeper missed one and it's been ruled out for offside. But apart from that he's been fantastic. People have got a lot more confidence with him in goal. People were going through against us and it would be a goal every time but when they go through on him you expect him to make a save."

McGinlay also praised goal scorer Tucker, saying: "Simon had his best game for ages. He worked hard, never gave up chasing and thoroughly deserved his goal. I've told the boys that hard work is going to get us out of the position we're in and Simon worked very hard. But another difference was that the midfield got close to people."

Rovers now aim to complete a league double over Saturday's visitors Blakenall, but McGinlay warned: "Saturday becomes a bigger game now. Blakenhall is a game we're looking to get something out of."

Rovers had one major injury scare after skipper Richard Wardle went off with a knee injury but McGinlay hopes defenders Ian Bluck and Andy Cheetham will return on Saturday, although he blasted midfielder Mark Dennis after learning he had exacerbated a knee injury in a "kickabout with his mates". "That was unprofessional. He thinks it could be his cartilage and if it is, that's his season over," he said.
