Rovers just champion

Gresley Rovers were celebrating a second consecutive West Midlands League championship today – thanks to their most bitter rivals.
Victory by neighbours Rocester over Stourport Swifts on Saturday made sure that Rovers – 2-0 winners at Blakenall – could no longer be caught at the top of the table.Manager Steve Dolby afterwards paid tribute to his players’ “tremendous achievement.”
“To win the title after the success of last year says a lot for the club and the players,” he said.
And he hinted imminent changes in his side, saying: “We’ve got a cup final on May 6th but before that there are three more league games and I’d like to take the opportunity to experiment, possibly using a few youth team players.”
Rovers were due to receive the championship shield from West Midlands League president Bob Juggins at the end of this afternoon’s Moat Ground clash against Hinckley Athletic.
