Gresley Rovers require two wins from five games to seal a second consecutive West Midlands League title.
A 2-1 win over title rivals Blakenall at the Moat Ground on Saturday gave Rovers an eight point advantage over second placed Stourport Swifts.Brian Beresford’s 31st goal of the season and a rare second half strike from full back John Barry sealed Rovers’ win.
Gresley now face a break from league action with a West Midlands League Cup semi-final trip to Westfields of Hereford tomorrow and a Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final at Stapenhill on Saturday.
By the time they play their next league game – against West Bromwich Town at the Moat Ground on Tuesday, April 7 – Rovers may be poised to seal the title.
