Rovers leave Romans in ruins

Gresley boss Frank Northwood watched his side humble local rivals Rocester 4-0 at the Moat Ground on Saturday then declared: “That was championship form.”
The win came after Northwood had rung the changes in the wake of the previous week’s disappointing FA Vase exit at Newcastle Town. That led to the departure of long-serving goalkeeper Bob Aston and striker Carl Rathbone and the exclusion of Neil Lovell, Craig Weston and Martin Dick from Saturday’s starting line-up.
But Northwood said: “Sacking a few did the trick. The boys that played today knew that they’d be out too if they didn’t do the business – I’ve got no favourites. But they responded well – it was a real team performance with no stars.
“Above all the fans deserved a performance like that because they were let down at Newcastle.”
Rocester boss acknowledged Rovers’ superiority saying: “The better side won.”
