Rovers close in on leaders

Gresley Rovers leapt to second place in the West Midlands League after a 3-1 win over Oldbury United at the Moat Ground last night.
Goals from Paul Acklam, Gil Land and Kieron Smith did the trick for Gresley after manager Frank Northwood had reshuffled his side following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat by Paget Rangers.Said Northwood: “I think the lads did well tonight. They stuck to their tasks and it was a real team effort. Jason Minton came in for his first full game and did very well. He held things together at the back for us, but they all deserve credit.”
Northwood awaits fitness reports on skipper Richard Denby as he prepares for Saturday’s FA Vase visit of Blakenall.
But Frank Nuttall, booked for the second time last night since joining Rovers in October, now faces an automatic 21-day suspension.
The Scots defender picked up three cautions while playing for Welsh club Bridgend in the Abacus League at the start of the season.
