Arch rivals Gresley Rovers and Rocester will clash in the third round of the West Midlands League Cup.
Rovers defeated Malvern Town 2-0 at the Moat Ground last night while the RomansBeat Halesowen Harriers 2-1 in a replay to set up an exciting clash at the Riversfield on a date to be fixed.
Rovers’ passage into the next round was not without controversy however as manager Frank Northwood hit out at Kingswinford referee P J Clarkeafter.
Northwood grumbled: “I feel the ref made a contest of it. If he had given us the penalties we should have been have been given it would have been 4-0 by half time.
“It was a much improved Malvern but we stuck to our task and eventually got our just rewards. Although the scoreline doesn’t do us justice we’re in the next round.”
Meanwhile, Rovers expect skipper Richard Denby, withdrawn at half time last night with a twisted ankle, to be fit for Saturday’s top-of-the-table trip to Paget Rangers with Northwood predicting: “It’ll be a tough one – but I’m confident we can do the business.”
