Gresley Rovers believe they can upset the form book tonight by clinching the FA Cup victory that agonisingly eluded them on Saturday.
Rovers came within a minute of toppling Beazer Homes Premier Division leaders VS Rugby at the Moat Ground – and are convinced that they can complete the job in the second qualifying round replay at Butlin Road (7.30pm).

Coach Steve Dolby said: “A lot of people are saying it’s going to be tough for us now the tie has gone back to their place, but I don’t see it that way.

“We were the better side on Saturday and deserved to win. We matched or bettered them in every department and providing we work hard we’re capable of doing the same job tonight. Just because it is on their pitch shouldn’t really come into it.”

Rovers’ game plan will be to go out and attack a defence which proved vulnerable at the Moat Ground, though the absence of in-form striker Paul Acklam is a setback.

Acklam aggravated a troublesome groin strain on Saturday and is likely to be replaced by veteran striker Brain Beresford.

Said Dolby: “Paul has been feeling the injury towards the end of games for a while now and the only answer is to give him a rest.”

VS, meanwhile, could have summer signing Ian Crawley in their side for the first time this season following his recovery from a hernia operation.

And former Burton Albion striker Robbie Jones, restricted to a substitute’s role in the first tie because of a hamstring injury, could also be in the Warwickshire side’s starting line up.

Dolby acknowledged that the partnership could prove a handful for the Gresley defence.

He said: “Robbie Jones is a quality player who could cause problems for us, while Ian Crawley is very good in the air. We tend to be a bit vulnerable to sides with plenty of height in their side.
