Rovers axe Guest

Gresley Rovers have axed new signing Michael Guest for tomorrow’s FA Cup second round qualifying clash with VS Rugby at the Moat Ground (3pm).
Manager Frank Northwood said: “We know the lad has quality but we have told him to get fit.”

Late fitness tests loom from Rovers’ striker Carl Rathbone and defender Martin Dick before the arrival of the Beazer Homes Premier Division leaders.

Rathbone is suffering from a knee injury and Dick has been suffering from concussion after last week’s 3-3 draw at Halesowen Harriers.

Northwood said: “It could be as late as tomorrow before we know if they are going to play, but I have got the veteran waiting in the wings – Brian Beresford will step in if Rathbone doesn’t make it.”

Steve Adcock comes into the 16-man Gresley line-up after his spell with Rovers’ ground share partners Mickleover RBL, though another new signing, Jason Darkes, is cup tied.

Ryan Venning is back from suspension and will start his first full game of the season.
