Fixture blast for League
Story courtesy of
Rival soccer bosses Frank Northwood and Alan Beaman today launched a joint salvo at West Midlands League organisers.
The outburst follows the publication of league fixtures for the season giving Gresley just two midweek fixtures and Rocester none at all.Said Northwood: “It’s as if we’re being penalised for winning the title last season. We didn’t have a midweek game in the opening two weeks of the season and while I expected we’d get priority for a Bank Holiday fixture we didn’t get one either.
“What’s more we’ve got two blank Saturday in January. It makes you ask why the league have made floodlights compulsory this season. It’s a business they’re running at Gresley but the league is being run like a friendly league.”
The club is now considering a complaint to the West Midlands League management committee.
Beaman said: “I’m disgusted. If there are any rough edges it’s clubs like Gresley and ourselves who have to suffer them. The inner-city boys are always looked after.”
