Bezza comes up trumps

Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood paid tribute to striker Brian Beresford after the veteran goal-grabber snatched a maximum three points from Cradley Town at the Moat Ground on Saturday.
Substitute Beresford struck with just 10 minutes left – leaving Northwood to beam: “I played my ace at just the right time!”But the Rovers’ supremo revealed later that he had come under fire for selecting Beresford – who had featured in only one of Gresley’s pre-season games.
“I had a bit of criticism when I named Brian as sub but he’s a true professional who keeps himself fit and trains a lot on his own. Those decisions can always backfire – but this one didn’t, did it?”
A delighted Beresford admitted: “I didn’t really expected to be involved after missing most of pre-season with an ankle injury, but I was pleased to get the chance.
“I seem to have the knack of coming off the bench and getting these goals.”
Rovers, without a league game until Saturday, were today trying to arrange a friendly for tomorrow evening.
