Rovers aim to relive glory final

Gresley Rovers look set to relive their magnificent FA Vase Wembley final with Guiseley.
The Moatmen have been approached by the West Yorkshire club, who shared eight goals with Rovers at Wembley before winning the Bramall Lane replay 3-1, to stage a pre-season friendly.

Gresley manager Frank Northwood said last night: “I’ve had a call from Guiseley and they would like to play us in a friendly at their place.”

He added: “They would like to play us so much, they will even be willing to pay the coach fare for us to get there.”

Northwood said: “It puts a feather in the lads caps. They think we have got a very good side and we were just unlucky to lose to them in the Vase final replay.

Merseyside club Knowsley – who Gresley beat in an epic fourth round tie – also form part of Rovers’ pre-season programme.

The Northern Counties West champions will meet Gresley at the Moat Ground on August 3rd.

Rovers also hope to play three league sides with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tranmere Rovers invited to visit the Moat Ground. Chesterfield are already scheduled to do so to play for the Derbyshire Rose Bowl.

In addition, Gresley have arranged two away games, at Friar Lane Old Boys on August 10th and Hednesford on August 27th.
