Gaz Norton's Reserve team news
Gaz Norton
I mentioned in my last notes 2 new signings for the Reserve team. Carl Slater has joined us from Shepshed Dynamo and was also playing in Burton Albion’s reserve team.
Carl is an excellent addition to the squad in the central midfield area and his performances in the games he has played since his arrival have made him an instant favourite of the other lads in the squad. Gareth Burgess has great potential and spent some time and is only just out of Burton Albion’s Youth team. From all accounts was unlucky not to be offered a contract at the end of last season. He spent 2 years at the Huddersfield Town school of excellence but hasn’t played too much football this season since leaving Burton. Gareth has had two substitute appearances before making an encouraging debut in our home game last weekend against Worcester City.I’m sure that you will all join me to make the new lads feel welcome at our club.
We had a poor run of form during November that saw us slip slightly in league position but recent performances have been almost back to the standards that were set earlier in the season. We have progressed into the Semi Finals of the Derbyshire cup and had an excellent win last weekend over an experienced Worcester city side. Im looking for that recent good form to continue against Hinckley Athletic today especially as it was Hinckley that ended our 9games unbeaten start to the season.
We have been very busy this season trying to raise sponsorship for the Reserves and to-date we have done well. The latest addition is PJG Engineering from Derby. PJG are in General Engineering and Pete Getcliffe the owner is pictured with Simon and myself. Many thanks to Pete for his support.
Simon and I would like to thank those of you that have attended any Reserve Team games this season for your support. Simon, I and the rest of the Reserve Team set up really appreciate it. As this is our last 1st team home game prior to Christmas, I would like to take the opportunity to wish all those people connected in anyway with the club a very happy Christmas and New Year.
