Rovers go for the ton

Gresley Rovers hope to smash through the 100-point barrier tonight at the start of a stamina snapping sequence of four games in as many days.
With the championship sewn up two weeks ago, Rovers hope the Moat Ground visit of Malvern Town (7.30pm) will help them to complete a hat-trick of notable Banks’s League feats.Triumphant manager Frank Northwood said: “We’ve got the championship shield, we’ve got 100 goals and it would be nice to say ‘thank you’ to our fans by notching up 100 points.
“I’ve been looking at other non-league tables and I can’t see anyone in the pyramid who’s done it this season. It will be another feather in our cap if we can.”
Rovers will have other opportunities at home to Blakenall tomorrow and at Rocester on Wednesday, but Northwood is likely to field much-weakened sides in those games as Gresley prepare for Thursday’s away leg of the Derbyshire Senior Cup final against Borrowash Victoria.
Gresley have doubts about several players tonight, but Northwood has bolstered his squad by snapping up sacked Burton Albion midfield player Ryan Venning.
Venning played for Rovers reserves on Saturday and could be given his first-team debut tonight.
Scott Elliott, Martin Dick and Neil Lovell all face fitness tests before Northwood can name his side.
