Gresley Rovers boss John McGinlay lectured his team for more than 40 minutes after a dismal display at home to Solihull Borough on Saturday.
A goal in each half ensured Borough's unbeaten away record in the league remained intact but there was no solace whatsoever for Rovers or their boss.

McGinlay described the display as "well below the standards we're looking for" and confessed: "We were at home but you'd never have thought it."

To make matters worse for the Scot both goals were as a result of defensive errors. Moaned the Moat chief: "We've told Jamie Roberts not to jump into tackles but then he's given away a penalty. Then Simon Baldwin has produced a poor kick out and the boy's scored a wonder goal. But they deserved to win the game. We lay down and rolled over to day. They didn't have to do a lot to go away with three points and that was disappointing but this might put people's feet back on the ground. One or two have been getting carried away a bit prematurely."

McGinlay was pleased, however, with the debut of new Barry Woolley and the successful return from injury of striker Neil Kitching, a year to the weekend since he broke his leg at Tiverton.

Said McGinlay: "I told him by phone last night (Friday) he would be on the bench and I could almost see him doing handstands. He was first here today and it was good to have him back. From the few touches he had you could see he's got quality. But we'll use him the right way now to build up his fitness and sharpness."

Meanwhile, McGinlay plans to speak to more potential new recruits this week, insisting: "We're looking to improve the squad all the time."
