Frank Northwood today paid tribute to his Gresley heroes – on the eve of the greatest day in the club’s 108-year history.
As Rovers left for tomorrow’s FA Vase final against Yorkshire club Guiseley at Wembley Stadium, Northwood insisted: “I take my hat off to every one of them.“They’ve served up super entertainment all season, and I’m sure they can do it again tomorrow,” said the veteran boss.
“The supporters have come this season, but only because the lads have entertained them by scoring goals – 100 in the league isn’t bad, is it?
“We’re going out there to win tomorrow, make no mistake. Both ourselves and Guiseley have fought very hard to get to the final, and I’m expecting a tough game.
“But I’m quite confident in the lads, as I’m sure their manager is in his players. It all adds up to a good game of football.
“I know Guiseley have scored a lot of goals to get to Wembley, but what we have got is a lot of fire power up front – anybody in the Gresley side is capable of scoring.
“We’ll have more fans at Wembley than Guiseley and we’ll be doing our best for them. Right now it’s fingers crossed and all systems go.”
Gresley have already named their 13 for the final – and the line-up will be exactly the same as it was for the previous three rounds.
Rovers: Aston, Barry, Astley, Land, Elliott, Stokes, Denby, Lovell, Acklam, Rathbone, Smith. Subs: Weston, Adcock.
