Moat coup

John McGinlay today described his first signing as being " a bit of a coup" for the club after tempting defender Barry Woolley away from Rocester.
Woolley moved late last night and is set to make his Rovers debut at home to Solihull Borough in the league tomorrow (Sat 3pm.)

A delighted McGinlay said this morning: "He is very highly rated in the league and there were a few clubs after him, so it is a bit of a coup for us. He is a big 6ft 3ins defender who is dominant in the air, is good on the floor and a good passer of the ball. He has played in midfield and up front in the past, so gives us that flexibility. He is only 21 and is a good all round package and I am chuffed to bits to have got him."

McGinlay confirmed he will be in the squad for tomorrow's match but did not reveal if he would start.

"We spoke to him last night and he was very keen, he wanted to join us and that is important. We did not really have time to sign him on a contract as it was done very quickly but that will be sorted out. But more importantly he is my first signing and in that respect it was important we got the right player, but there will be two or three more."

On the subject of contracts, McGinlay said there were a number ready to be signed by the players at the club.

"We have agreed contracts with a few players but they have not been signed yet," said the Moat boss.

"It is all about timing really. I don't like talking contracts when we are preparing for games and I have also been watching players, but four or five are ready to be signed."

Rocester boss Martyn Smith was disappointed with Wooley's decision to move, saying: "He is one of the players you can build a side around. I told him he should be moving up not side ways but it was his decision."
