Devaney back at the Moat

Former Moat Ground favourite Martin Devaney makes a shock return tonight – to lead Gresley Rovers attack against Darlaston (7.30pm).
Gresley boss Frank Northwood revealed last night that he had completed an audacious loan coup to bring the £10,000-rated Devaney back from Beazer Homes League Tamworth to the club where he made his name – for a one-off appearance.Northwood was spurred into action by an injury to Carl Rathbone that left Rovers short of attacking power against one of their Banks’s League title rivals.
Explained Northwood: “Rathbone is definitely out with fluid on his knee and Paul Acklam is also doubtful.
“I looked at the situation and – no disrespect to the other lads at the club – decided that we needed some height and power up front against Darlaston.
“Steve Adcock and Andy Moore have both done well for us – Steve has become our super sub and that’s great – but Martin can add something they can’t provide.
“But it is strictly for one game only. It is a gesture of goodwill by Tamworth manager Graham Smith. He would like us to get promotion to the Beazer League and he will help us in any way he can.
“I spoke to Graham and Martin on Monday night and they were both pleased to help.”
Devaney was recently the subject of a £5,000 bid by Conference club Stafford Rangers – managed by former Burton Albion boss Chris Wright – but Tamworth value the man who scored their FA Vase final equaliser at Wembley stadium against Sudbury two seasons ago at twice that amount.
