Gresley Rovers today took a full-strength 16-man squad down to Sussex for tomorrow’s FA Vase showdown with Littlehampton Town.
Rovers, aiming to make history by reaching a Wembley final for the first time in their 108-year history, have a 3-1 lead from Saturday’s semi-final, first leg but harbour no intentions of attempting to sit on the lead in tomorrow’s second leg.Manager Frank Northwood pledged: “There’s no way any Gresley Rovers team of mine will ever set out to defend. We are going down their aiming to score more goals and win the tie in style.”
Northwood will name an unchanged side provided striker Paul Acklam – outstanding in Saturday’s game – passes a late fitness test after suffering a leg injury in Saturday’s game.
Midfielder-cum-striker Andy Moore is added to the squad as a precautionary measure.
Defender Scott Elliott who suffered eye and nose injuries during a pitch invasion, is fit to regain his place at left back.
The Sussex side could be without defender Adrian Skietes whose own goal contributed to Littlehampton’s downfall before limping off with damaged ankle ligaments.
Skipper Steve Bates is also receiving treatment after aggravating a troublesome ankle injury.
Gresley are expected to have 400 fans in the all-ticket capacity crowd of 1,800 at the Sportsfield.
