Gresley striker Carl Rathbone stands by to return after a two-match injury lay-off in tomorrow night’s Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final replay at Matlock (7.30pm).
Nine-goal striker Rathbone missed Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at the Moat Ground with a neck injury sustained in the 4-1 at Pelsall and was also sidelined for Saturday’s goalless Banks’s League Cup semi-final first leg at Chasetown. But he is likely to return tomorrow to spear Gresley’s bid to lift the Derbyshire Senior Cup for the fourth successive season, with Steve Adcock likely to make way.
Manager Frank Northwood said on Saturday: “Carl could have played today at a pinch but we didn’t want to take any chances.”
Meanwhile, Vase semi-final opponents Littlehampton Town are also involved in the county cup semi-final replay tonight.
They play Southwick in a Sussex Senior Cup tie at Worthing after drawing 2-2 on Wednesday. Skipper Steve Bates misses the game because of ankle ligament damage suffered in the 2-0 victory over Eastbourne on Saturday.
