Defeat On The Road For Rovers
It’s been said many times that some games are games of two halves and this one was one of those.
Rovers shaded the first half but could not convert the chances they created but to give Lincoln the credit, they bossed the second and deserved their win converting their two clear chances although they did have some half chances.
The visitors were without Fin Barker who is suffering from a fractured foot, but they did welcome Jack Andrews for his club debut. Also back were Ben Gough and Alex Britton who both missed the recent FA Cup game against Lichfield.
Lincoln started well with Scott Matthews forcing a good block from keeper Charlie Wood. Slowly Rovers got into the game and a good run down the left by Nathan Banton ended with a cross into the Lincoln box with Danny Munday just failing to get on the end of it at the far post.
On the half hour mark Rovers went close again with Alby Lansdowne sending over a cross from the left which Munday headed over the bar.
Lincoln also went close when a ball from a free kick was header back into the danger area but Paul Grimes’ low shot flew the wrong side of the upright.
The home side were pressing almost from the second half start and Owen Vincent had two good chances to give his side the lead flashing a shot over the bar and forcing a decent save off Wood.
Rovers almost took the lead on 53 minutes somewhat against the run of play when Louis Anthony’s header came off the back post. Wood was busy again making a fine save down to his right to push a low shot away for a corner. A change for the visitors came following the save with Britton replacing the injured Osaze Okuonghae
Lincoln took a deserved lead on 59 minutes when Grimes struck a low shot which arrowed into the far bottom corner with Wood beaten. Rovers came back with Munday hitting his shot which was held by home keeper Jack Steggles.
Wood was needed again making another good save and this was followed by more changes. Bekir Halil and Ethan Goodfellow replaced Dylan Hunniford and Banton respectively.
On 85 minutes Lincoln doubled their advantage when Rovers failed to clear the ball on the edge of the area and the loose ball was fired home by Jaime Ture.
Rovers made another change with Ben Gough replacing Anthony but it was too late to have any impact on the game and the travelling Rovers faithful left to make their long journey home.
