First League Game Defeat For Rovers
Rovers’ start to their UCL campaign did not get off to the best when they slipped to a narrow defeat at the Moat Ground. The Moatmen were still missing several senior players but those who filled the shirts put on a decent showing.
Two evenly matched sides put on an entertaining game on a pleasant afternoon, but it was the visitors who grabbed all three points.
Both sides threatened early on but it was Boston who went the closest when on 19 minutes when Harry Limb lobbed Joe Williams in the home goal only to see his effort come back off the bar.
It was a cagey game with attacks at both ends coming to nothing and neither keeper having to work very hard. Kane Lee had a half chance for Rovers on 32 minutes, but his low shot was comfortably gathered by visiting keeper Travis Portas. The first half fizzled out and the referee ended the game.
Town were quick off the mark taking the lead on 52 minutes. Williams kick was short and the lively Limb collected and raced forward rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home. Within 8 minutes their lead was doubled as a result of a quick break down the left and Lucas Dakin finishing the move off with a goal.
Nathan Banton gave the home crowd something to cheer when he picked the ball up before racing into the middle with pace and firing the ball past the keeper.
The final 15 minutes saw both teams making changes and Rovers began to take charge of the game but still the visitors managed to repel any home attacks and although hanging on at the end held out to take all three points back to Boston.
Rovers have the quick chance to get back on track as they travel to Kimberly on Tuesday.
