Match Report  |  Gresley FC vs Loughborough Dynamo

A furious Damion Beckford-Quailey was left almost speechless after seeing his side succumb to a home defeat in their last home game of the season. He described his Gresley side's performance as embarrassing, shocking and possibly the worst performance since he joined the club last summer.

Gresley's lack of heart and desire was evident for all to see and it seemed that many of the players had got their flip flops and sun cream packed ready for their summer holidays. They looked lethargic, leggy and perhaps tired after their tough game at Rugby on Saturday.

Beckford-Quailey has one more game, a tough one, at Leek which will help him decide which players will be wearing a Gresley shirt against Matlock in the County Cup Final but, on that showing he will have a very hard task to fill the squad for that game.

The manager shuffled his side but was without Dexter Morris-Clarke who his injured and Keenan King who completed his three game suspension. Jon Stevenson made an appearance after missing the last five games due to injury. Laithan Hammond was also available after returning from holiday.

Loughborough Dynamo came into this game knowing anything less than a win would not help in the quest to retain their Evo-Stik membership and they were certainly up for this local derby. They worked hard, passed accurately and if it had not been for Gresley's keeper James Findley their winning margin would have been larger. In the end they thoroughly deserved their three points although the winning goal did not come until the 3rd minute of time added on at the end of the game.

Gresley started well enough with Tom Manship having his free kick pushed away by Dynamo's keeper Scott Wardley followed soon after by Stevenson having his rasping shot tipped over.

However, that spell of 15-20 minutes proved to be Gresley's last as the visitors took charge. Ash Hodgkinson fired a shot narrowly over the bar and they went closer minutes later when a shot from Karl Demidh needed to be pushed away by Flinders. The ball return to the danger area but Demidh could only put his shot into the side netting at the far post. A rare venture into Dynamo's area saw Leandro Browne's effort saved by Wardley.

The first half ended with Dynamo on top and they went close to taking the lead when a stinging shot from distance by Ezekial Agyemang was superbly turned onto the bar by Flinders.

Gresley had the first chance of the second half on 52 minutes when Reece Morris made a fine run down the left and into the area but an onrushing Wardley made a block to deny him.

Dynamo were making all the running but not finding the killer touch needed to reward their endeavours.

Morris did give his side a glimmer of hope with a cross from the left into the box but there was no Gresley player available to get the vital touch.

Gresley had Flinders to thank for keeping the score level with ten minutes remaining having to tip another shot onto the bar, this time from Hodgkinson. The rebound was smashed well over by Carl Sibson with the goal gaping.

Another cross almost caught Gresley out. The ball was sent over by Louis Keenan but Agyemang could only head over when well placed.

Keenan then tried his luck with a shot from distance which only just cleared the bar but deep into time added on Dynamo got the breakthrough their play deserved.

Gresley conceded a soft free kick about 20 yards out. Demidh took the kick and curled the ball into the top corner of the net giving Flinders no chance.

The visitors' celebrations were ecstatic knowing they had possible hung onto their Northern Premier Division One place especially with their nearest rivals Rugby Town only drawing. Dynamo's fate now relies on their last game of the season. Another win and they stay up, a defeat and they could drop down if Rugby win.

For Gresley, a very much improved performance is needed against Leek Town.
