Dismal Night For Gresley
It was a dismal night all round at the Moat - the weather, the score but especially the performance from Gresley.
They suffered their second defeat, and their first at home, in four days as Bedworth managed to grab all three points from another lacklustre showing by the Moatmen.
Although the overall work rate was an improvement from Saturday poor defending saw them lose grip of a game they should have at the very least gained a point.
The leaking of goals means the Gresley strikers have to work all even harder to try and salvage something from the game putting them under pressure to produce the goods.
After taking the lead with a well worked goal just before the interval it was hoped that Gresley would go on to win the game but alas, just as on Saturday, they conspired to grab defeat from the jaws of victory handing their visitors all three points with two sloppy goals.
Gresley manager Damion Beckford-Quailey made changes bringing in Ryan Walker, Tom Manship and Leandro Browne for Jordan Wakeling, Lucas Harrison and Toby Fura who all took their places on the bench.
The home side started brightly forcing an early corner and Courtney Meade making a forward run before firing over the bar.
However, United hit back with Luke Rowe hitting a shot wide followed by an effort from Iyseden Christie but his shot lacked any power and on loan keeper Adam Hassan collected easily.
A few moments later Gresley had the chance to take the lead when Reece Morris cut into the area and forced keeper James Martin to block the shot with his legs.
Another chance came for the hosts when Tendai Chitiza put Courtney Meade through but after beating the keeper, who had forced him wide, could only fire wide of the near post.
Gresley were unlucky not to have had a penalty when Chitiza was brought down just inside the area, but, with the assistant referee not up with play, referee Mr Cook decided it was an inch or two outside and gave the free kick.
Harrison, who had replaced on 21 minutes the unlucky Tom Manship who had suffered a groin injury which could keep him out of the side for four to six weeks, hit a well struck low shot which Martin could only parry but there was no Gresley player able to capitalise.
Gresley took the lead on the stroke of half time. Chitiza collected the ball just inside the Bedworth half and strode forward before slipping the ball through to Browne who finished well hammering the ball into the roof of the net.
Hassan needed to be alert early in the second half making a good save from United substitute Kieron Brehon pushing the ball away diving to his left.
At the other end the visiting keeper made a similar save to deny Morris who had cut in from the left before letting fly.
United drew level on 73 minutes when Jordan Archer was allowed to head a cross from the left unchallenged into the net.
It was a disappointing goal to concede and the goal seemed to give United a lift and they were soon putting Gresley under pressure again.
Hassan made another smart save denying Christie but he conceded again just a couple of minutes later and again another very poor goal to give away.
A ball from the left from what looked like an offside position which the assistant referee not up with play failed to spot, was not dealt with by defenders or goalkeeper and Daniel Creaney was able to drive his low shot into the net.
You could hear the groans around the ground from the Gresley faithful who had once more seen their side shoot themselves in the foot.
Gresley could have snatched what would have been a deserved share of the points right at the end but Pearson Mwanyongo's header from Morris's cross scraped the top of the bar.
