Gresley So Close
Gresley were just a couple of minutes from that elusive clean sheet and three points until a 25-yard shot from Lee Cooksey denied them.
The moatmen had chances especially in the first half to had the game won early on but credit to Sheffield they dug in and grabbed what was a last gasp share of the points they arguably deserved.
A change in Gresley's formation seemed to have the desired effect with them looking more solid at the back and a clean sheet looked a fair bet until the 94th minute. The work rate and desire looked in stark contrast to that witnessed on Saturday and should have had a better reward that just a solitary point.
Gresley started well with Courtney Meade hitting a shot marginally wide at the near post after just three minutes. He followed that up with a shot which curled just the wrong side of the far post.
Despite Gresley's bright start they could have fallen behind except for two very good saves from keeper Rob Peet.
The home side was pressing again with Pearson Mwanyongo curling a shot from the right wide of the far post. Mwanyongo was causing the visiting defence problems and on 29 minutes he shrugged off several tackles as he dashed through the middle but his final shot went wide.
Gresley finally converted one of several scoring chances on 34 minutes. Awarded a free kick 20 yards out Leandro Browne struck a superb dipping shot which crashed against the bar but Matt Melbourne was quick to react and slotted the rebound into the net for his first goal for the club.
It was the turn of the visitors to begin well in the second half with a header going over the bar from a good position following Matt Roney's corner.
With the pitch getting softer with the steadily falling rain players were losing their footing making the game quite scrappy but Mwanyongo managed to end a fine spell of football by Gresley pushing the ball through to Meade who could only half hit his shot making it an easy save for keeper Chris Butt.
Peet was needed on 74 minutes when he made a good block with his legs at his near post to deny Conner Hall.
Ben Harris then picked out Mwanyongo on the right with a perfectly flighted cross pitch diagonal ball which the winger controlled brilliantly before cutting in and firing a shot which Butt saved under his bar.
Mwanyongo then looped a shot which Butt did well to tip over the bar and substitute Tendai Chitiza had a shot blocked at the near post as Gresley went looking for another goal.
Cooksey brought out another good save from Peet but deep into time added on he eventually beat Peet with a well struck shot from distance to grab a very late share of the spoils.
