Gresley End With A Draw
Despite neither team having anything to play for except pride they both served up an entertaining game to finish the season off.
Gresley manager Gary Ricketts was able to name the same starting eleven that faced Daventry last week and after 12 minutes it looked like there may well be a similar score as the Moatmen had raced into a two goal lead.
But, Dynamo didn't let their heads drop and by the 55th minute they were in front. However, substitute Ricketts headed the equaliser just after the hour mark.
Gresley were in front with barely 3 minutes on the clock. A superb pass from Jack Langston to Martin Smyth was equally superbly controlled by Smyth who then drilled the ball past Dynamo keeper Charles Hornby.
The lead was doubled on 12 minutes and again it came from a good move. Langston picked out Smyth who controlled the ball, took two touches before slipping it to Ryan King who coolly beat Hornby.
Dynamo came back forcing home keeper Rob Peet into a fine save diving to his left to deny a well struck free kick by Mark Shelton.
The visitors were now settling into the game and on 21 minutes halved the deficit. A good move down the right ended with a low cross into the box which Lee Potts put away from close in.
Dynamo started to take control of the second half and were level on 53 minutes. A corner from the right by Potts eventually came to Eddy Samba who smashed a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
It got even better for the visitors because 2 minutes later they were in front. The move started in the Dynamo penalty area and as they raced forward through the middle of the pitch Jamie Clarke shrugged off a couple of ineffective attempts at tackling before ending his run by beating Peet.
Gresley looked a little shell shocked and it took a little while to regain their composure but eventually they got their reward when two substitutes combined to get the goal. Brad Smith, who had replaced Sam Wright six minutes previous, sent over a deep cross from the left and fellow substitute Ricketts flicked a header on at the far post and the ball went into the net with the help of the post.
Both sides did not settle for the point but rather went for the winner and they each could have grabbed one but chances went begging. A well struck Shelton free kick needed to be pushed away by Peet while at the other end Ricketts set John Guy up but the shot was blazed well over from a good position.
Smyth then tried his luck with a shot from distance but it flew too high but the last chance of the game went to the visitors. Another well hit free kick by Shelton was equally well saved by Peet.
It would have been harsh on either side if one had grabbed a late winner as a draw, only Gresley's second of the season, was the fair result from this enthralling game.
