Gresley Hit Five
Gresley found their scoring touch as they slammed five past Chasetown at the Moat Ground with brace from Jordan Nadat and goals from Rob Spencer, Kieran O'Connell and Paolo Piliero.
Manager Martin Rowe made two changes to the side which lost at Rainworth on Saturday giving starts to Hayden Johns and Paolo Piliero.
As on Saturday Gresley got off to good start scoring with just eight minutes on the clock. Spencer made a run down the left beating visiting keeper Ryan Price to the ball. He then picked out Nadat who finished well slotting the ball home. This time however Gresley held on to their lead adding to it on the halftime whistle.
Midway through the half Jack Langston tried a lob after seeing the keeper off his line but his effort just cleared the bar.
The first clear chance for the Scholars came just after the half-hour mark. Nick Wellecome made his way to the near post before hitting a stinging low shot which Gresley keeper Ross Etheridge did well to block.
Gresley doubled their advantage on the halftime whistle when Spencer got his head to a cross from the right putting the ball into the net with the help of a defender.
Another similarity with Saturday was how quickly Gresley came out of the blocks after the break. Chasetown were caught cold and a woeful attempted pass back which Guy got a toe to was latched onto quickly by O'Connell who raced forward before slipping the ball into the far bottom corner of the net.
Chasetown got onto the scoresheet when Jamie Barrett brought down Sullivan in the area and Simon Brown made no mistake blasting home his shot from the spot.
The goal seemed to spur Gresley on and three minutes later they restored their three goal lead when O'Connell made another good run down the left before finding Nadat with his pass who proceeded to side foot the ball past Price at his near post.
Gresley looked capable of scoring every time they pressed forward and they were rewarded for their persistence down the left leading to Piliero slamming the ball past Price.
Chasetown managed to chalk off another goal with twelve minutes remaining when Paul Sullivan made the most of a slip by Johns down the left and then beating Etheridge with his shot but in the end it was comfortable but fully deserved win for the Moatmen which must give them a confidence boost for Saturday's FA Trophy game against Trafford.
