Bedworth United vs Gresley Rovers
Rovers win at Bedworth
Gresley Rovers won their first away victory against Bedworth United in a "terrific"
team performance.
John McGinlay included in his squad his new loan signing Ryan Ford for his
debut and the former Manchester United youngster made an immediate impact looking
dangerous every time he received the ball.
Ford was played wide right with Chris Gray playing down the left. Another new
signing Jake Fairbrother making his debut joined Paul Fletcher in midfield giving
Gresley better balance and a much stronger, solid team.
Debutant Ford was soon involved as Gresley took hold of the match early on.
On 6 minutes Gray took a corner that was cleared only as far as Ford whose right-foot
volley from the edge of the box was cleared off the line by Jamie Richardson.
On 14 minutes Ford was involved again when he put in a cross which home keeper,
Craig Glover, could only flap at giving Gray the chance to open his and Gresley's
tally as he got in front of his marker to head home at the far post.
Bedworth could have got back into the game with their best attempt on goal
on 16 minutes when a corner from Scott McGregor was met by Adam Webster and
his header looked destined for the top corner until James Lindley pulled off
a superb reflex save and tipped the ball around the post.
Stuart Evans was then called on to deprive Webster as the home side's leading
scorer seemed certain to level.
Gresley confirmed their victory after 77 minutes when Ford capped an impressive
debut. Fairbrother headed another Gray corner towards goal only for Bedworth
's Nathan Thompson to clear off the line as far as Ford whose fierce first time
shot flew into the bottom corner of the net from 25 yrds.
John McGinlay called this "a terrific all-round performance" and was extremely
pleased how the new lads had fitted in and how every player had worked hard
for each other.
