Gresley make it three
Gresley Rovers got off to a good start against the Vics taking the lead after just 4 minutes. A good deep cross was met by Nicky Carter at the far post who planted his headed into the opposite corner of the net.
If Gresley thought they were going to have things all their own way they were sadly mistaken. The Vics had beaten Conference side Burton Albion only a couple of weeks ago so it was no surprise that they hit back with a goal just four minutes later.
Gresley keeper Steve Harris made an excellent save but the Vics' striker John Guy was quickest to react and netted the rebound.
The goal seemed to give the home side a spark and they were soon forcing another brilliant save out of Harris.
Steve Gomm regained the lead for the visitors when he knocked home the ball that the keeper almost got to.
On 18 minutes Gresley had another chance but Colin Hoyle could only put his far post header straight into the arms of the Borrowash keeper.
Gresley were having much the better of the game and a number of chances fell their way. The first on 20 minutes when Richard Lonsdale's shot was deflected by a defender with the ball flashing just past the post.
Six minutes later Carl Slater tried his luck planting a good shot just wide and ten minutes later he tried again. This time he made a superb jinking run right through the middle but ended blazing a shot just over the bar.
Paul Edwards had a couple of chances at the end of the half hitting a post and then a few minutes later having a shot cleared off the line.
The second period was just a minute old when the referee took the players off the pitch due to a terrific electrical storm that had hit the Borrowash area.
The game started again after a delay of 15 minutes with a great Gresley move down the left but the dangerous cross was poked out of play by a defender for a corner. The corner taken by Curtis Shaw, one of numerous half time substitutions, bounced right through a crowd of players in the area with no one able to get the final touch.
A similar occurrence happened a couple of minutes later at the other end of the pitch this time there were no Vics' player able to get on the end of the low cross.
The game was tied up for the Moatmen on 77 minutes when Damien Powell picked up the loose ball before expertly curling the ball around the goalkeeper.
Harris the Gresley keeper did well saving a well directed flicked header as Borrowash threatened to close the gap with just 10 minutes remaining.
