Boldmere St Michael's vs Gresley Rovers

Rovers at last make net profit - Andy Parker - Burton Mail

The goals finally began to flow for Gresley Rovers on Saturday
but not until Brian Kenning's team had endured a first half mauling from their
Interlink Alliance hosts. In baking heat, Rovers continued to look punchless
in attack to begin with then fell behind to a gift goal.

Carl Dwyer was given the time and space to line up a shot from
the edge of the Rovers box and although Richard Selby appeared to have the striker's
half-hit shot covered, the embarrassed keeper allowed the ball to squirm under
his body and into the net. Defender Ian Bluck, playing against his former teamates,
should have equalised after good approach work by James Roberts and Mark Peters
but the defender headed the midfielder's precise crosss against a post from
a yard out.

The Mikes ought to have taken advantage by extending their lead
with Dwyer firing over an open goal after bustling his wat through and former
Burton Albion youth team winger Jimmy Quiggan seeing a thunderous effirt bravely
blocked by Adie Doughty.

Rovers continued to struggle in attack with Kevin Allsop looking
short of match fitness but the burly striker had a hand in Rovers' equaliser
on the stroke of half-time, holding the ball well before setting up Richard
Wardle whose pass across the edge of the penalty area was chipped over Neil
McMahon to give Roberts a memorable first goal for the Moatmen.

Rovers went ahead with another excellent strike, Dave King doing
the spadework within a minute of arriving as sustitute and Roberts turning provider
with a perfect through ball that released Micky Sandar to fire home an angled
drive.

Dave King scored the third with a spectacular diving header from
Adie Doughty's excellent first-time cross from the right.

Boyles saw another header disallowed for offside and it was left
to substitute Wayne Thornhill to complete the scoring, firing home from close
range after Allsop had provided the opening with a low cross, again from the
right.
