Gresley Rovers vs Boston United

Gresley Rovers 0 - 0 Boston United

The league leaders came to the Moat Ground.
Rovers: Jimmy Heire, Owen Cashmore, Peter Butler, Peter Boulton, Alan Rowe, Brian Hextall, John Boulton, John Clarke, Barry Fitchett, John Mitchell.

United: Stone, White, Blockley, Brown, Lord, Whitworth, Langworth, Topley, Smith, Flack, Lister.

The referee was Mr TE Carrington of Conder and official gate receipts were £22.

There was plenty of goalmouth incidents in the early stages but both keepers were in tremendous form with a save from Heire from United's Topley drawing particular praise from the press. John Mitchell making his debut for the Rovers in place of John Hallam looked a good prospect.

Gresley applied intense pressure for a spell after the break and Clarke had the ball in the net but his effort was disallowed for offside.

As Boston came back into the game a header by Flack looked destined for the back of the net, however, Heire was well positioned and held the ball firmly under the bar.

It was Rovers again who threatened minutes later with another quick break and this time it was the United custodian Stone who blocked a good effort from Fitchett to prevent Rovers a late winner near the end of the game.

So, in the end tenth placed Rovers had to be content with a goalless draw against the league leaders but although there had been a lack of goals there had certainly not been a lack of entertainment.
