Gresley Rovers vs Hinckley Town
Rovers repair – Burton Mail
Gresley Rovers repaired the damage of Saturday’s 4-1 mauling at Chasetown with a morale-boosting victory over Beazer Homes Leaguers Hinckley Town last night.
A highly creditable crowd of 160 turned out to witness a Moat Ground friendly that turned out to be well worth the admission price.
Craig Weston’s deflected shot gave Rovers the lead after half an hour but there were more goals after the break as both sides produced flowing attacking football.
Pick of the bunch was Laurie Chambers’ spectacular volley for Hinckley, giving keeper Simon Harrison, a second half substitute for Tony Moore no chance.
Skipper Richard Denby fired Rovers ahead for the second time before Chris Meyer, who seems to specialise in scoring goals in friendlies, fired home with his first touch after coming off the bench.
Town substitute Neil Costello pulled one back with the last kick of the game.
