Gresley Rovers vs Mickleover/Borrowash
Moat cheer for Mick – Burton Mail
Players from three soccer clubs made it a happier Christmas for an unfortunate colleague at the Moat Ground last night.
Defender Mick Brown, who broke his leg while playing for Borrowash Victoria against Mickleover at Gresley, looked on as players from the two Derby clubs met Rovers in a benefit game, raising £185.
Brothers Steve of Mickleover, made it a family affair, scoring the first and laying on the second for Mick Taplin.
Rovers’ youth team player Chris Parkin, guesting for the combined team, made it 3-0 before trialist Chris Meyer pulled one back.
But the result was immaterial as Brown, jobless because of injury, said: “Tonight is absolutely tremendous – I can’t thank everyone enough.”
The 27 year-old – who weds in August – hopes to make a playing comeback after a year’s rehabilitation.
