Gresley Rovers vs Lye Town

Frank blasts at Rovers 'slackers' - Andy Parker - Burton Mail

Gresley suffered a broadside from manager Frank Northwood after slumping to a home defeat by Lye for the second consecutive season at the Moat Ground on Saturday.

"I just don't think we're doing enough," stormed Northwood. "It's no good having seven or eight players putting 100 per cent in and the rest only 80 per cent.

"Having said that, I felt we deserved something today. They didn't make a single chance while we made a whole string of them."

Lye had veteran keeper Crannage to thank for a blank interval scoreline after he blocked two blockbusting efforts from Carl Rathbone, but straight from the restart a defensive blunder at the other end put the visitors into a shock lead.

Steve Astley dropped a backpass short and striker Graham Stokes nipped in to fire past Bob Aston from close range.

That prompted Rovers' most incisive spell of the game and they were level after seven minutes when Rathbone crossed from deep on the left, leaving Kieron Smith to finish off with a neat far post header.

But just as it seemed Rovers must turn the tables on Lye, Stokes was allowed to progress through a yawning gap at the back and fire home via a post.

Smith saw a header bounce to safety to Crannage and another point blank effort saved.

It wasn't looking like Rovers' day and that was confirmed when Craig Weston shot from 18 yards, hit defender Darren Taylor and the ball looped to safety over the crossbar.
